New Delhi: Delhi shot past Mumbai with 70,390 confirmed coronavirus emerging as the country's COVID-19 capital. Mumbai has recorded 69,625 cases so far. Mumbai has successfully flattened the curve as per the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) in Dharavi. The civic authorities plan to apply the Dharavi model of containment in six other municipal wards of the city. Mumbai also plans to screen 25 lakh people in these six wards.

Delhi's spike is also attributed to the high level of testing in the national capital. Delhi has run close to 4,21,000 tests so far, conducting 22,142 tests per million. On Wednesday alone, Delhi conducted 19,059 tests. Mumbai's testing is said to be significantly lower.

The national capital has now reported the highest number of cases among the four major metropolitan cities. Delhi on Wednesday alone, reported 3,788 fresh cases and 64 deaths.

The authorities in Delhi are getting ready to undertake a massive door-to-door survey across all households in the national capital. The door-to-door survey in Delhi is scheduled to begin on Friday.

Staff from civic bodies have been enlisted to carry out the survey which is set to be completed by July 6. The city has 11 districts each of which would need about 3,000 workers, authorities are reported to have told the media.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah held a series of meetings recently with the Lt. Governor of Delhi, Anil Baijal, chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and a number of senior officials to review the COVID-19 situation in the national capital.
