Chandrasekhar Rao, the Chief Minister of Telangana downright stated that his government would not allow destruction of Sultan Bazaar and other historical structures, which had heritage and cultural importance, to facilitate the construction of the Hyderabad Metro Rail project.

Hyderabad: K. Chandrasekhar Rao, the Chief Minister of Telangana downright stated that his government would not allow destruction of Sultan Bazaar and other historical structures, which had heritage and cultural importance, to facilitate the construction of the Hyderabad Metro Rail project.

KCR made it clear in the Legislative Assembly that the elevated Metro Rail project would have to go underground wherever there was threat to heritage structures and the project design would have to be realigned for this. Further, he said that the Metro Rail project was posing a threat even to the Assembly building and the Telangana Martyrs’ Memorial in front of the Assembly by passing very close to them.

KCR said that he had already conveyed his concerns about the project to the officials of the HMR and the builder, L&T, asking them to examine realignment of the project.
