Guntur MP Galla Jayadev has requested Union Minister Suresh Prabhu to develop railway facilities in the capital region. He asked the minister to take up works related to the doubling and electrification of the 36 km stretch from Tenali and Repalle. Jayadev felt that the completion of the project will make it possible to run more long-distance trains through Guntur, the nearest station to the capital region.
“While taking up this project, Sangam Jagarlamudi station should be provided with a foot over bridge which will help not only in connecting platforms but also in facilitating about 400 students who cross the rail tracks to reach their school on the other side of the station,” the MP felt. Besides this project, Jayadev suggested doubling and electrification of Pagidipalli-Nalgonda-Nadikudi-Nallapadu stations.
“This is a shorter route to reach Guntur-Mangalagiri-Vijayawada from Secunderabad. This route facilitates introduction of more trains to Chennai touching the AP capital region. The proposed Nadikudi-Kalahasthi route will generate more revenue for railways once Pagidipalli-Nallapadu doubling and electrification is completed as Nallapadu-Guntakal is already electrified,” he said.Jayadev maintained that the Guntur station should be given a facelift as it is playing host to the new capital.
“A comprehensive station development blueprint devised earlier involving construction of footover bridge and expansion of platforms needs to be implemented,” he said. The MP also pitched for halting of all express trains at Mangalagiri Railway Station in view of several national institutions coming up in the town. He requested the authorities for laying the crossing line at Vemuru and releasing of sufficient funds to complete the same to reduce the delay in reaching destinations on either sides. Jaya Dev in his appeal asked for the introduction of new trains covering Guntur-Mangalagiri-Vijayawada.
“The new trains should include Guntur-Tirupati-Guntur Intercity Express via Tenali and Gudur. A day train connecting Bapatla, Chirala, Ongole and Nellore for the benefit of students and employees, Guntur-New Delhi superfast express via Vijayawada and Kazipet, Vijayawada-Mysore express train via Guntur-Gooty-Bengaluru, Guntur to Guwahati Superfast Express, Kakinada to Jaipur Superfast Express, Tirupati to Katra/Jammu and Vijayawada-Dhone-Vijayawada intercity express via Guntur-Nandyal,” he suggested.Jayadev also sought the revival of Nagarjuna Express which served the passengers between Secunderabad and Tenali as passengers in the region are unable to find a standing space in Janma Bhoomi express.
