Hyderabad Outer Ring RoadHyderabad: In what comes as a major relief, 1,400 people who gave up their lands for the Nehru Outer Ring Road (ORR) is going to get compensation after a long wait of nearly a decade.

The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) recently called for tenders for cleaning of land in Koheda village of Hayathnagar with a view to offer them under ORR Relief and Rehabilitation (R&R) packages.

An official said that the demarcation work would be finished by April 2016 and then the construction of layouts would be taken up. “The firm has to complete the work within three months of taking up the job,” he said. The land of 118 acres in Koheda village on Survey Number 507 was proposed to be allotted for those who gave up their land for ORR a long time ago, but there was no progress on the proposal for many years. The official said that since this parcel of land was more than 100 acres, it took time to get approval from the Chief Commissioner of Land Administration (CCLA) and Ranga Reddy district collectorate. “Further, the Ranga Reddy district collectorate has been requested to grant additional 50 acres of land to complete the plot compensation packages,” he said.

So far, the authority had developed layouts and compensated the plots in Shamshabad in Shamshabad mandal (21.80 acre), Srinagar in Maheswaram mandal (25.29 acre), Kondapur in Ghatkesar mandal (96.65 acre), Amberpet in Hayathnagar mandal (56.35 acre), Sulatanpur inPatancheru mandal (34.07 acre) and Velimala in Ramachandrauram mandal (42.43 acre) under various R&R packages.

The authority had acquired 5,148 acre of private lands during the ORR land acquisition which affected nearly 13,476 property owners in 2005. But only 12,034 people who lost their land have been compensated till date.

The official said the plot compensation work would almost come to an end with the completion of layouts in Koheda and Yadigarpally East village in Keesara Mandal (56.85 acre). He added that the authority had decided to take up the layout works in Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode to complete the works faster. “Earlier, the layout construction was carried out on authority funds but this time we are planning to develop layouts on PPP mode,” he said. HMDA technical experts estimated that the works for developing Koheda Layout would cost Rs 40 crore.
