Rajahmundry: The Hans India English daily is all set to go national in 2016-17. Stating this at a function organised to launch the ninth edition at Rajamahendravaram here on Friday, Hans India Editor Prof K Nageshwar, quoting FICCI study, said the objective of expanding The Hans India was to reach out to the people in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities, mandal headquarters and villages instead of sticking only to metro cities.

This is the fourth edition in last one year making The Hans India the fastest growing newspaper in the two states. Now, The Hans India has five editions in Andhra Pradesh and four in Telangana state. The Godavari edition from Rajahmundry caters to the twin Godavari districts, East and West. The tenth edition of The Hans India would be launched from Ongole this year, followed by Chennai and New Delhi editions in 2016-17, he said.

Prof Nageshwar said that a newspaper should perform four functions -- credible information function, critical adversarial function, investigative function and agenda setting function on behalf of the people. The Hans India, he said was committed to these principles of journalism. It gives due coverage to urban as well as rural areas.

He further said that English language has greater potential for employment and it also enhances the economic growth. Stating that there is no need for clash between electronic and print media, he said multi-TV households and multi-newspaper households would be common phenomena in future.

Executive Director, Hyderabad Media House Limited, K Hanumanta Rao said the launch of The Hans India has already attracted the interest among the readers in the twin Godavari districts as it would reach all the smaller towns, mandals and villages in the district. General Manager, Circulation, B Sai Reddy was also present.
