NAAC A grade for AU
With the hectic efforts put in by former Vice-Chancellor of Andhra University Prof GSN Raju assisted by former Rector Prof EA Narayana and Registrar Prof V Umamaheswara Rao in sensitising and gearing up all departments in preparing necessary arrangements for the NAAC visit, the varsity has bagged ‘A’ grade with a score of 3.6, the second highest grading among all State universities in the country.
Visakhapatnam: With the hectic efforts put in by former Vice-Chancellor of Andhra University Prof GSN Raju assisted by former Rector Prof EA Narayana and Registrar Prof V Umamaheswara Rao in sensitising and gearing up all departments in preparing necessary arrangements for the NAAC visit, the varsity has bagged ‘A’ grade with a score of 3.6, the second highest grading among all State universities in the country.
The Committee which visited the AU during the tenure of Prof Raju as Vice-Chancellor, has announced the grading and sent the information to the varsity here on Saturday. With the announcement, present in-charge V-C Prof Narayana, Registrar Prof Umamaheswara Rao, teachers and non-teaching staff are in a jubilant mood.
When the university had gone for NAAC assessment during 2008, when Prof Venugopala Reddy was the V-C, it secured ‘A’ grade with a score of 3.65 and thus, the AU has now got ‘.5’ score less compared to 2008 assessment. However, HRD Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao has attributed the ‘.5’ less score to the shortage of faculty and appreciated the AU authorities for the ‘A’ grade.
When contacted in-charge V-C Prof Narayana and Registrar Prof Umamaheswara Rao, they told The Hans India on Saturday that the NAAC grading has further increased their responsibility to strive hard for the development of academics, research, consultancies and transparent administration with the collective cooperation of AU officials.
When asked about the immediate benefits with the NAAC grading, Prof Umamaheswara Rao replied that the varsity will immediately get a fund of Rs 20 crore from Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA).
