Visakhapatnam: National president of Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) G Sanjeeva Reddy along with leaders of Steel recognised union (Intuc) met the Chairman and Managing Director of Vizag Steel Plant P Madhusudan here on Sunday.

During the meeting, many important issues for the welfare of the workers and also that of the plant were discussed. Dr Reddy asked the Steel Plant management to release the increased HRA amount to all the employees which was pending since July 2014, immediately.

Referring to the expected severe water crisis to the Steel Plant, the national president of INTUC asked the Visakha Steel Employees’ Congress leaders and the management to mount pressure on the State government demanding captive iron ore mines and proper water supply to the plant.

Fortunately, the early monsoon rains have prevented the water crisis to the Steel Plant, he added. Wherever, the workers’ welfare is taken care of by the management, organisation will go smooth, he added.

INTUC National General Secretary Rajasekhar Mantri and union leaders Gandham Venkata Rao, Gadasala Appa Rao, Neerukonda Ramachandra Rao, Tamminaidu, Mantri Murty, Jerripothula Mutyalu, P Venkata Rao and Gangavaram Gopi accompanied Sanjeeva Reddy.

Earlier, Dr Reddy attended a private function held in the house of Steel Intuc union leader Gondesi Maheswara Reddy along with former Congress MLAs Dronamraju Srinivas, Tippala Gurumurty Reddy, Intuc leaders and YSR Congress leaders Koyya Prasada Reddy and Tippala Nagireddy.

Later, he visited the house of additional general secretary of Steel plant recognised union B Murali Raju, whose son Nareen Varma was killed recently in a road mishap and consoled the family members. Steel INTUC Union leaders were also present.
