Kakinada: SCR Chief Claims Officer K N Raju has asked beggars not to cause inconvenience and harass passengers travelling in trains.

Speaking to the media at Kakinada junction railway station on Sunday, he said, “The Indian railways will not allow anyone board a train or come on to platform without ticket. You must not move in the trains seeking money from the passengers.”

He said that the beggars would be shifted to orphanages and old age homes and added that possibilities will be explored to provide an alternate means of earning for beggars. Raju said a nine-day Swachhta cleanliness campaign was rolled out by Railways on September 17 with special focus on cleanliness at railway stations and trains. Billed Swachh Rail Swachh Bharat-Swachhta Saptah, the focus of the nationwide cleanliness drive will be on cleaning of water booths and drains, ensuring quality of drinking water and adequacy of dustbins, and proper garbage disposal, he added.

Being taken up for the second consecutive year as per the directive of Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu, the drive will focus on activities in different areas starting with clean environment. The drive will end on September 25, the Chief Claims Officer said.
