Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu unveiled a pylon at the Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA cricket stadium at PM Palem before India took on the visitors England in the maiden test match and second of the test series, here on Thursday morning. This is the first ever test matched played in Andhra Pradesh.

This is the first ever test matched played in Andhra Pradesh.
Speaking on the occasion, he said it gave him immense pleasure that the first Test match was being played on Andhra Pradesh soil.
“I am happy as Vizag is gaining much popularity in sporting arena,” he said while watching the inaugural session of the match.

He said that Vizag hosted many international sporting events and with the test match played in the city of destiny and Vizag would become a sports hub soon.
The recent two major international cricket events- Test cricket match in Vizag and the just concluded India-West Indies women’s ODI series at Mulapadu area near Vijayawada has proved that Andhra Pradesh will be hosting more international cricket events in the near future, he added.
Regarding development of sports facilities in the State, Naidu said the government was committed to develop 19 sports grounds, besides setting up four more stadiums (Tirupati, Amaravathi, Kakinada and Srikakulam) to produce talented sports persons.
He added that that the State will be host 37th National Games in 2019.
The Chief Minister presented mementoes to former English and Indian cricketers like; Sunil Gavaskar, VVS Laxman, Ravi Shastry, Sanjay Manjrekar, L Sivaramakrishnan, Anil Kumble, Naseer Hussain and Mike Artherton and chairman of BCCI senior selection committee MSK Prasad.
