Students told to draw inspiration from Durgabai Deshmukh
Celebrating 107th birth anniversary of freedom fighter and social reformer Durgabai Deshmukh, Vizag Bar Association in collaboration with an NGO - Milestone - organised an awareness programme on legal services to workers in the unorganised sector at the District Court Library Hall in Visakhapatnam on Saturday.
Visakhapatnam: Celebrating 107th birth anniversary of freedom fighter and social reformer Durgabai Deshmukh, Vizag Bar Association in collaboration with an NGO - Milestone - organised an awareness programme on legal services to workers in the unorganised sector at the District Court Library Hall in Visakhapatnam on Saturday.
Addressing the gathering, Principal District and Sessions Judge PV Jyothirmayi said National Legal Services Authority Scheme (NALSA) was framed to protect the 60 per cent unorganised workers of the country from exploitation.
The judge exhorted the Para-Legal volunteers, panel lawyers to create more awareness about NALSA schemes among the vulnerable sections of the society and requested everyone to recommend District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) address for the persons in need of help.
Talking about Durgabai Deshmukh, II Additional District and Sessions Judge U Satya Rao called upon the girl students to draw inspiration from her as she stood against all odds of that time to pursue education besides starting schools of her own for the uplift of girls.
Milestone founder president Rahimunisa Begum said setting up of Skill Development Centres in 72 GVMC schools would be helpful for vulnerable women to get trained and thereby giving access to opportunities and ensuring social mobility.
VI Additional District and Sessions Judge Vara Prasad, Vizag Bar Association president Poosarla Balakrishna, secretary Kandregula Jagadheswararao, DLSA secretary Damodaram, DLSA panel lawyer R Srinivasa Rao, students and many other participated in the event.
Prizes were distributed to the students of Aditya Degree College, Visakha Women’s Degree College and BVK College for writing best essays in competition which was conducted as part of Durgabai Deshmukh’s birth anniversary celebrations.
