Dissenting Ramasubba Reddy too gets MLC seat

Amaravati: In a bid to appease the dissent, the AP Cabinet has decided to shower NMD Farooq and P Ramasubba Reddy with MLC posts under the Governor’s quota.

The Cabinet which met at the Secretariat on Tuesday elaborately discussed the selection of Farooq and Ramasubba Reddy, who hail from Kurnool and Kadapa districts, respectively.

According to TDP sources, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who is concentrating on the Nandyal bypoll, has already appointed three ministers and 20 MLAs as party in-charges to win the seat, which fell vacant with the demise of Bhuma Nagi Reddy.

As the population of Muslims is high in the Nandyal constituency, the Chief Minister is learnt to have favoured Farooq with an MLC post to woo the minorities. It is also learnt that the Chief Minister has assured Farooq of appointing him as the Chairman of the Legislative Council as there is no representation to the Muslims in the Cabinet.

Meanwhile, Ramasubba Reddy of Jammalamadugu in Kadapa district, had been unhappy ever since his rival C Adinarayana Reddy joining the TDP and also getting a Cabinet berth against his wishes. Ramasubba Reddy, in protest, skipped the Mahanadu at Visakhapatnam and also not participating in any party activity.

When offered the Chairman post for a Corporation, Ramasubba Reddy bluntly rejected it and demanded a position where it should be equal to the Cabinet rank, it is learnt.

He reportedly asked for the post of Chairman of Legislative Council after being nominated as MLC, the Chief Minister reportedly expressed his helplessness as he had already decided to nominate a Muslim minority to the post. To appease him, the TDP supremo has selected him for the post of MLC, sources said.
