Tirupati: The project titled “Development of the surgical programme for spinal deformity at a tertiary centre–challenges and outcomes” submitted by the Associate Professor at the department of Neurosurgery in SVIMS Dr VV Ramesh Chandra, stood as a finalist at an international event.

It reached the final stage of “Surgical team of the year” category of the prestigious International British Medical Journal (BMJ) South Asia awards for the year 2017 held in New Delhi on November 18. After a rigorous and highly competitive scrutiny of 2,000 projects from eight countries, the project submitted by Dr Ramesh Chandra has found a place in the finals, attaining international accolades and the certificate was awarded at a glittering ceremony conducted by BMJ.

The Professor and HoD of Neurosurgery department Dr BCM Prasad, who started the spinal deformity programme, commended Dr Ramesh Chandra for his sincere and flawless efforts in bringing global recognition to the programme. He thanked SVIMS Director Dr TS Ravi Kumar for his constant support and encouragement and highlighted the vital role played by TTDs SV Pranadanam Trust in developing this programme which has treated over 100 patients and tackles an unmet healthcare need in Andhra Pradesh with good outcomes without any financial burden to the patient.

SVIMS authorities dedicated this prestigious award to the donors of Sri Venkateswara Pranadanam Trust of TTD. Dr TS Ravikumar congratulated the neurosurgical team and said that this recognition in global context symbolises the magic of philanthropy in shaping young lives.
