Kothagudem: Traces of human life existed thousands of years ago have been found in several areas of the Bhadradri-Kothagudem district following excavation taken up by the Archaeology department in Bhupalapalli and other areas.
Several prehistoric rocks have been unearthed on a hillock in the forest area on the border of Charla and Venkatapuram mandals, about eight km from Suraveedu Colony close to the Kamini Cheruvu.

Two new prehistoric painting sites were found in the district. Renowned historian Dr Dyavanapalli Satyanarayana found these sites near in the Buggagattu forests located at a distance of some 10 km from the district headquarters during his exploration taken up on Sunday.
These rocks can be seen from the other side of the water body, clearly indicating that human life was vibrant there thousands of years ago from the house-like structures built by the residents using stones to a height of two-three metres, with a wide stone placed as roof.
Some of these stone structures exist even today after thousands of years. Such structures have been found on hills at several places in the Bhadrachalam agency area. Several Adivasi leaders claim that these structures were Samadhis of the people who lived then.
The Archaeology department staff say that these structures were described as prehistoric rocks of the Stone Age. Although such structures have been found at some places there has not been a full-fledged research so far.
In the light of finding of tens of ‘Rakasi Gullu’ on some hills in Venkatapuram mandal and also in the Mallur forest areas, the department is making efforts to go ascertain their historic aspects.
Unearthing of caves on some hills in Mulakapalli mandal has created interest among the locals, as they have been identified as rock arts, also indicating the existence of human life thousands of years back.
One of the rocks is found to be bent as a wall on which people of that period drew figures that are now in ruins. The figures of a bull and people can’t be clearly identified unless seen closely.
The traces of Adivasis having perfomed puja were also found. The people of the ancient period are said to have taken shelter in these caves, like in the case of one huge cave under the Pandavula Gutta, where 250 are stated to have taken shelter, as stated by the department excavators.
Locals want these structures which lie close to Palvancha to be clearly identified and developed by the State government.
