In a remarkable move, Forum Sujana Mall is organising a major awareness drive about mental health. The announcement came through a curtain raiser in the city on Monday in which Tanveer Shaikh, GM of the mall said, “We will be participating in ‘The Purple Run’, which will create awareness about Alzheimer’s disease.”
The ‘Run’ will be held simultaneously across four cities on September 24. It will have two mini marathons and a half marathon. Dr Preeti Sinha from NIMHANS (National Institute of Mental Health & Neuro Sciences) spoke about the disease on the day.
“Alzheimer affects different parts of the brain but severely effects the areas of the organ that control memory, language, and thinking skills. Most people assume that it is a normal part of aging which is false. The progressive disease course is divided into four stages and worsens over time having no current cure for now, but treatments for symptoms are available; those with early signs of detection,” she said.
The destinations for the run are Hyderabad, Forum-Fiza, Forum-Vijaya, Forum-Neighbourhood and Forum-Koramanganla with levels of 3km, 5km, 10km and 21km category open.
“Alzheimer’s is the fifth leading cause of death among people above the age group of 55. We aim to create awareness through instilling inspiration and information among people of various age groups by active participation in the campaign,” said Shaikh.
