Hyderabad: The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) would introduce 1,200 new buses in the State during next six months and replace the old ones. The Corporation also proposes to create some new routes.

According to a senior official of TSRTC, they will introduce 1,200 new buses by March 2018. The buses include 25 Garuda Plus, which would arrive by the end of November, 48 Indra A/c buses expected to arrive by January 2018, 350 Super Luxury and about 500 Deluxe (express) by February. The Corporation would procure 152 new buses specially for the city and 40 Vajra buses would be made available by this month end.

These buses are made of Ashok Leyland, Tata, Eicher, Volvo, Scania and Mahindra companies.

The official said that 1,000 new buses would replace the old buses in the TSRTC. Apart from these, the Corporation would acquire 200 additional buses with an aim to start new services including long and short distances, he added. “The new buses would be used for starting new routes in areas like Nizamabad, Karimnagar, Warangal and for some inter-state services based on the demand,” said the official.

Presently, the TSRTC has a total fleet of 10,600 buses. The Transport Minister P Mahender Reddy said that 1,500 buses have become old and need to be replaced. He said that the Corporation would seek financial assistance from the State government for procuring the new buses.

TSRTC Chairman S Satyanarayana said that about 800 buses have travelled over 10 lakh kilometres and need replacement. Officials said that after successfully introducing mini-buses in the villages, the Corporation has decided to introduce more and more such buses. “The mini and non-A/c buses have been getting good patronage in the rural areas and hence, it has been decided to introduce 85 new buses for connecting new villages for the 1,000 un-connected villages,” said the official.

The official said that Corporation would require Rs 300 crore for procuring these buses. The State government would provide an assistance of Rs 140 crore and the TSRTC would have to bear a burden of Rs 160 crore.
