1 killed as water tank slab under construction collapses

Tirupati: One worker killed, and three others have sustained severe injuries when a water tank slab under construction collapsed at municipal park here on Saturday. The mishap took place when they were busy constructing slab for the water tank. Bachu (20) hailing from West Bengal died on the spot.

On receiving information, a team rushed to the spot and rescued 3 workers trapped inside the rubbles. Immediately, they were shifted to a government hospital. The water tank is under construction under Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) scheme.

Municipal Corporation of Tirupati (MCT) Commissioner PS Girisha has ordered departmental probe on the incident. The district administration has announced Rs 3 lakh compensation to the kin of deceased family.

YSRCP Tirupati MLA Bhumana Karunakar Reddy's son Bhumana Abhinaya Reddy and other residents took active part in rescuing labourers. A case was registered.
