1.2 kg gold, 88 lakh cash seized

Cash seized during vehicle checking at Kambalpadu check post in Dhone on Wednesday

Kurnool: The Dhone police seized Rs 88.22 lakh unaccounted cash and more than one kilo gram gold and arrested two persons during vehicle checking operation on Wednesday morning. Addressing media later, Dhone DSP S Khader Basha said vehicle searches have been intensified on the orders of district SP Fakkerappa Kaginelli in view of model code of conduct coming into force.

He said when they were conducting vehicle checking at Kambalpadu check post in the early hours of Wednesday, they detected two bags filled with huge amount of money and gold. Two persons who were carrying the cash and gold were asked to show valid documents but the duo failed to do so, he added. Khader Basha said they had seized Rs 88.22 lakh cash besides gold weighing 1.22 kg that costs around Rs 38 lakh.

On enquiry, they came to know that the two belong to Vijay Jamshed Jewellery shop situated in Bangalore, he said. He said they had handed over the cash and gold to Income Tax department for further action. He appealed to people to carry necessary documentary proof while carrying cash else it would be seized. On Tuesday, one kg golden ornaments were seized at Sunkesula check post and on the same day around Rs 15 lakh cash was also seized at various places in the district.
