1,200 tonne waste removed from canals in two days drive

Vijayawada: Krishna District Collector A Md Imtiaz said that 1,200 tonnes of wastage was removed from canals as part of canals cleanliness drive taken up in the last two days in the city. Reviewing the 'Krishnamma Suddhi' programme at Collector's camp office here on Sunday, Imtiaz said that the private hospitals and nursing homes should extend cooperation to the programme by avoiding dumping of wastage in canals.

Stating that the drains were connected to canals, he said that they would plan to solve the problem permanently. The collector said that the canal bund residents were dumping their waste in canals and permanent solution to the problem should be taken up soon.

He also said that the special teams were formed to stop shifting of building material towards Ramalingeswara Nagar road. He said the officials of Municipal and Panchayat Raj departments were working round-the-clock to provide drinking water and sanitation services.

He asked all the people and government departments to extend cooperation to make the cleanliness drive a success. District Medical and Health officer Dr I Ramesh, Indian Medical Association president Dr TV Ramana Murthy and management staff of hospitals were also present.
