162 child labourers rescued in Nellore
Nellore: The cops rescued 162 children, who were engaged as labourers, as part of a special drive across the district on Friday. District cops launched a special drive, Operation Muskan, and conducted simultaneous raids at several places in all sub-divisions.
Police handed over 136 children to the parents and 26 were sent to the rescue homes for protection. The programme was actually launched by the Ministry of Home Affairs for protecting the children, who were forced to undergo child labour and also trace out the missing children.
162 children engaged in different labour activities were rescued by the police officials at various places. 69 were rescued in Atmakur, 53 in Gudur and 25 in Nellore Town, 11 children by the DSP, Woman PS and 2 by Kavali police. 4 among them were girls. 26 children have been handed over to Surekha, Chairman of the CWC and Jagadish, Member of the JJB, Nellore in the presence of Ganesh, Assistant Labour Commissioner.
