2 cr cash, 30 kg gold seized
Eluru: In order to prevent flow of money during elections, the officials in West Godavari district seized Rs two crore in cash and 30 kgs gold since issue of election notification.
This was said by District Collector Praveen Kumar to Chief Electoral Officer Gopalakrishna Dwivedi who convened a video conference with Collectors and SPs across the state on Thursday night.
Speaking on the occasion, the Collector said that they had taken measures to improve the functioning of MCMCs and registered 36 cases so far. They have seized Rs 80 lakh worth liquor. Details of monetary transactions exceeding Rs 1 lakh have been taken from the bankers to check black money. As many as 94 complaints under cVIGIL have been received and settled, he added.
SP M Raviprakash said that 15 cases were registered under MCMC. All measures have been taken to maintain law and order, he explained.
The Chief Electoral Officer said that they had stepped up vigil on social media. They would monitor social media accounts of each candidate after completion of the nomination process. Notices would be served over the objectionable content in social media and action would be initiated afterwards, he said.
