20,657 EVMs ready for polls in Eluru

Eluru: As many as 20,657 electronic voting units are kept ready for April 11 polling in the district. The first phase of verification of these units was also done.

In addition to these, some more will be readied for the polling, said District Collector Praveen Kumar to Central Election Commission officials.

Along with other officials, the Collector attended the videoconference held by the EC officials from New Delhi on Monday evening.

In the videoconference held for various state officials, the EC officials instructed them to conduct the elections in a peaceful manner. They reviewed arrangements made so far.

They suggested the officials to keep 10 per cent more EVMs and VVPATs necessary for polling to avoid shortage in the emergency situations. This is the first time VVPATs are being used along with EVMs for polling in the country.

The Collector said the EC officials that they have been arranging sufficient EVMs along with VVPATs to ensure hassle-free polling.

Joint Collector M Venugopal Reddy, trainee Asst Collector Praveen Aditya, DRO Satyanarayana and others were present.
