Ongole: Prakasam District Collector Dr Pola Bhaskara said that they had identified about 24,000 medical and health staff to administer the Covid vaccine in the district.

Subsequently the vaccine will be administered to the police and sanitation workers as they are leading the fight against coronavirus. The Collector announced that the dry run for the Covid vaccination conducted on Saturday was successful at the three centres identified in the district.

Speaking after the inspection of the dry run vaccination process at the Government General Hospital in Ongole, Pola Bhaskara said that the government was making efforts to provide the vaccination to all people. He said that the dry run was held at the PP unit at the GGH Ongole, PHC at Maddipadu and Sanghamitra Hospital in Ongole and the required arrangements were made following the directions of the Union government.

He said that they were following a polling centre like mechanism for the vaccination centres. He explained that the session site is important as it has three rooms - the waiting room for the people identified to take the vaccine, the vaccination room, and the observation room, where the vaccinated people wait for 30 minutes to see if there are any side-effects.

The Collector said that they would see that all people coming for the vaccine follow the Covid instructions and all facilities for them including drinking water would be made available. He said that the vaccine would be first administered to the medical and health staff and then to the police and sanitation workers.

He said that then they would give the vaccine shots to people above 50 years of age and those with other diseases. To ensure that there would be no trouble in the process of vaccination, they conducted the dry run on Saturday.

Joint Collector T S Chetan, DCHS Dr U Usharani, GGH Superintendent Dr D Sriramulu and RMO M Venugopal Reddy also participated in the programme.

Later, Chetan, DMHO Dr Ratnavali and others visited the session sites at Sanghamitra Hospital and Maddipadu PHC and inspected the dry run process.
