300 artistes showcase talent on International Dance Day
Vijayawada: International Dance Day was celebrated in a grand way jointly by Andhra Pradesh State Creative and Culture and Ghantasala Venkateswara Rao Government Music and Dance College here on Monday. The Postal Department also extended its hand in conducting the dance day celebrations at Music college open air auditorium.
The Dance Committee of the International Theatre Institute, the main partner for the performing arts of UNESCO had declared April 29 as International Dance Day in memory of the birth anniversary of Jean-Georges Noverre (1727–1810), the creator of modern ballet. The day strives to encourage participation and education in dance through events and festivals held on the date all over the world.
About 300 dance artistes showcased their talent on this occasion and made the audience thrilled. In addition to traditional dance like Kuchipudi and Bharatanatyam, the folk dance items like Buttabommalu, Peacock, Tappetagullu, Dhimsi, Lambadi and Koya were also placed in this event and made it colourful.
On this occasion, K Balasubrahmanyam, Chief Post Master General, Andhra Pradesh released eight postal covers on behalf of Indian Postal Department. Post Master General Col M Elesha was also present on the dais. Dr D Vizai Bhaskar, CEO, Andhra Pradesh State Creative and Culture presided over the meeting.
Dr Vedantam Ramalinga Sastry and Khaleel were felicitated by the organisers on this day. The disciples of Venkatrama Sarma, Hemanth Kumar, Chinta Ravi Balakrishna, Srinivas, Pavankuar, Ch Ajaykumar, Sappa Sivakumar, A Santosh, Parthasaradhi, Sailasri, Padmasri Hemanth, and Sowmya performed different classical dance items on the stage. Govindarajan, Principal, Music College conducted this event perfectly.
