3,411 polling centres set up in West Godavari district

Eluru: As many as 3411 polling centres are readied in West Godavari district for the elections. Besides provision of electricity, drinking water and infrastructure facilities, necessary measures are taken for internet and web casting.

Disclosing this here on Sunday, Collector Praveen Kumar said that facility of ramps for differently-abled persons is also provided.

He inspected rooms of proposed polling centre at Kasturba Municipal Corporation High School at Kotaddibba. He instructed the officials to ensure voters face no inconvenience at the polling centres. Queue lines should be set up for their convenience.

Arrangements should be made in such a way that voters need not wait for long for exercising their franchise. Tricycles should be kept ready for physically-challenged voters, he instructed.

The Collector also inspected an EVM godown on the premises of Collectorate. He said that 11,365 EVMs are being readied for elections. He also disclosed that 8613 control units and 9292 VVPATs are also kept ready.

The officials and engineers concerned have tested these machines at different stages. After completely satisfied with the election equipment, they are stored in the godown for use during elections.

Even representatives of political parties were also invited to test their functioning. The EVM godown is under CCTV camera surveillance apart from tight security by police staff.

DRO Satyanarayana and others accompanied the Collector during inspection.
