45,000 schools in Andhra Pradesh to get facelift under Nadu-Nedu Programme starting from November 14

Amaravati: After schools and hospitals, Intermediate and degree colleges, ITIs and Gurukul schools would be taken up for renovation under the 'Nadu-Nedu' programme which begins on November 14.

Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy during a review meeting with officials here on Tuesday, said that about 45,000 schools would be renovated under the Nadu-Nedu programme.

In the next stage, renovation works will be taken up for junior colleges, degree colleges, polytechnic colleges, ITIs, Gurukul schools and hostels and huge money would be allocated for the purpose.

Every school in the State will be provided with the required infrastructure including toilets, compound walls, furniture, fans, blackboards, and painting. He instructed the officials to prepare a checklist for the works to be done at every school. About nine types of works would be executed.

He said education committees would be involved in the Nadu-Nedu programme. Thus there will be parents participation in academics as well as school management issues. Next year the State government will implement English medium from Class-1 to 8, the Chief Minister announced. He instructed officials to prepare the curriculum in this regard.

He asked the officials to distribute uniforms, shoes and books to the children at the beginning of the academic year. He told the officials that there should be no instance of children not receiving books until September or October.

Under Nadu-Nedu, the government is renovating all the government hospitals. Sub-Centres, PHCs, Area Hospitals, District Hospitals and teaching hospitals are also being renovated.

There should be no shortage of drugs in hospitals, the Chief Minister instructed. More than 510 medicines will be available at hospitals from December 15. He said that the Network hospitals and government hospitals must be equal in quality standards.

He asked the officials to fill up the posts of doctors and nurses in all government hospitals by May next year. A calendar in this regard should be prepared by January. He asked the officials to see that there shall be no dearth for financial resources.

He instructed the officials to upgrade good high schools in the mandals to junior college and ensure that teachers' proportion should meet the student population. The officials were directed by the Chief Minister to complete the works by Sankranti.

The Chief Minister asked the officials to ensure that in each installment of Nadu-Nedu, schools in rural, tribal and municipal areas were covered. Officials informed him that they had prepared a plan for the same.

The Chief Minister said that there should be no compromise on quality in school uniforms and furniture. Ministers Adimulapu Suresh, Alla Nani and officials were present at the meeting.
