4,838 cases settled in Lok Adalats in Nellore district in one year: Judge

Nellore: Secretary of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) and senior civil Judge P J Sudha said that they had conducted 478 Lok Adalats during the last one year and settled 4,838 cases in the district. National Legal Services Day was observed at Nyaya Seva Bhavan in the District Court Complex here on Saturday

P J Sudha said that aim of conducting the programme is to offer free legal services to the people of the weaker sections. She said that the Legal Services Day is being organised across the country to increase awareness among the people on free legal aid available for the needy.

The Acts, Regulations and Rules were first implemented by the Sikkim in 1995 which was continued by other states later,' she said. She also explained that they had settled 4,838 cases among the 9,222 referred to Lok Adalats.

The settled cases include 525 civil cases, 3,650 criminal cases, 78 matrimonial cases and 252 pre-litigation cases. She also informed that they had settled an amount of Rs.71,75,570 during the Lok Adalats for various cases. IV Additional District Judge M Thirumala Rao, DRO G Mallikarjuna, Women PS DSP P Sridhar and others were present.
