560 crore allotted for programme: Speaker

Srikakulam: Assembly Speaker Tammineni Sitaram stated that the State government has allotted Rs 560 crore for YSR Kanti Velugu programme.

Inaugurating the Kanti Velugu programme at Narasannapeta in the district on Thursday along with Minister for Roads and Buildings Dharmana Krishna Das, he said under the scheme, free eye screening tests and treatment would be conducted for poor and schoolchildren.

He added six type of eye tests would be conducted as part of YSR Kanti Velugu scheme. With an aim to prevent eye diseases among children at early stage and to provide medical care to old aged persons, he said Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy initiated the scheme.

Dharmana Krishna Das appealed to people to visit their nearest eye testing centre to detect problems related to eye at early stage. Students of all ages must undergo tests for their eyes to enable their reading abilities, he said and added the Chief Minister was committed to welfare of poor people and students and corporate quality medical treatment would be provided as part of YSR Kanti Velugu.

After detecting diseases, spectacles would be distributed to the needy patients from November 1 and before December 31, said Collector J Nivas and added eye test camps would be organised at all government and private schools.

Eye test camps will be conducted at three stages till January 31, 2022. He stated the eye tests will be conducted at 84 primary health centres and urban health centres.
