634 new 108 vehicles to be procured in Tirupati

Tirupati: The new building of Model Rural Health Research Unit (MRHRU) in Chandragiri was inaugurated on Wednesday by the Chairman of AP Medical Services Infrastructure Development Corporation (APMSIDC) Dr B Chandra Sekhar Reddy.

Speaking on the occasion, he said that it was established with an objective to create infrastructure at the periphery for transfer of technology to the rural areas for improving the quality of health services of rural population.

It provides an interface between researchers in the medical institutions, health systems operators and the beneficiaries ensuring the much needed geographical spread of health research infrastructure in the rural areas of the country.

Under buy back policy, 634 new 108 vehicles are being procured, said Dr Chandra Sekhar Reddy. During the last five years, hospitals were run with 27 public, private partnerships and with deficiency of medicines, he criticised.

The previous government has failed to supply the required drugs to the hospitals. Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy has vowed to bring reforms in education and medical sectors with Nadu-Nedu programme. He recalled that the Chief Minister has even appointed a committee to give suggestions on how to take the health sector forward.

MRHRU is currently functioning at a newly constructed building and providing basic services such as counselling of patients on communicable diseases, risk factors of non-communicable disease, provision of ECG, lab services such as biochemical, pathological and serological tests to patients referred from Rural Health Training Centre (RHTC).

Research methodology training sessions are also being conducted for UG medical students in coordination with SV Medical College, Tirupati. MRHRU staff are educating Anganwadi workers, ASHA workers and ANMs to improve the quality of health services to rural population during the nutrition assessment survey.

Dr R Hemalatha, Director of Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) – National Institute of Nutrition (NIN), Principal of SV Medical College Dr C Jaya Bhaskar, Scientist F and Project in charge Dr Babu Geddam and Nodal Officer Prof Ashok Kumar Reddy participated.V
