70 students trek Ambapuram Cave in Vijayawada
Vijayawada: Rotarians and schoolchildren took a heritage trek and thrilled at the architecture of historic cave at Ambapuram village in Vijayawada rural mandal. The adventurous event was organised by the Rotatory Club of Vijayawada (RCV) and Cultural Centre of Vijayawada and Amaravathi (CCVA) on Saturday and led by Dr E Sivanagi Reddy, Historians CEO, CCVA.
The team consisting of Nampally Raja and B Sitaramireddy, Directors, Youth services, RCV, and a group of 70 students trekked for half-a-kilometre distance of Ambapuram hill and reached the 8th Century AD rock cut cave of the Swetambar Jain.
Dr Sivanagi Reddy, a Jain Archeologist interpreted on the method of excavating the cave, Jaina Architecture, and spread Jainism in and around Vijayawada. Dr Reddy appealed to the government to provide minimum infrastructure facilities so that the cave could be developed as a spot for heritage and eco-tourism.
