9-year-old girl raped, hit with a stone to silence her in Kurnool

Kurnool: A minor girl was raped and an attempt was made by the rapist to kill her. The heinous incident took place on Friday night in Yemmiganur town. According to CI V Sreedhar Raju, the 9-year-old- girl was staying with her parents in Yemmiganur and is studying 4th class at an adjacent government school.

On Friday evening when the girl went out, a known person had lured her by offering something and took her to a nearby godown where he had raped her. She began screaming and to make her calm, he had threatened to kill her.

When she did not stop crying, the culprit hit her with a stone on her head to kill her, said the police officer. Locals who heard the cries rushed to the spot and found the girl in a pool of blood and in an unconscious state.

The accused managed to escape from the spot. Local people informed her parents who had shifted her to Yemmiganur General Hospital, Sreedhar Raju said. After extending primary treatment, she was referred to Kurnool Government General Hospital for better treatment.

She is under medical care in the Intensive Care Unit, said the CI. Based on the complaint given by parents, we inspected the scene of offence, he said. We have filed a case under sections 3&4 of Protection of Child from Sexual Offence (POCSO) and 307 IPC (attempt to kill) and took up investigation, the CI said.

Meanwhile the SC, ST, BC and Minority leaders visited the victim where she is undergoing treatment and consoled the family members. They demanded stringent action against the accused.
