ABRSM demands more funds for varsities

Tirupati: Akil Bharatiya Rashtriya Saikshik Mahasangh (ABRSM) flayed the State Budget for 2019-20 for making reduced allocations for various universities in the State. SV University, Andhra, Acharya Nagarjuna and Sri Krishnadevaraya Universities among others have got a cut in their block grants compared to 2018-19. The State Convenor of ABRSM Prof YV Rami Reddy said that they have been condemning the budget proposals.

As the universities have been paying salaries as per the recommendations of UGC 7th Pay Revision Commission, state government has to allocate more resources. Instead of that, the government has reduced the funds by 20 per cent and this will push the varsities into financial difficulties.

In view of the increased salaries and the need for development in science and technology sectors, government should reconsider its decision and allocate more funds for universities, he demanded.
