Guntur: Advocates boycott courts in 2 districts
Guntur: Advocates boycotted courts in Guntur and Prakasam districts on Monday to mount pressure on the state government to make its stand clear on shifting of High Court to Rayalaseema. Advocates contend that they were concerned about reports of Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy assuring advocates of Kurnool district that he would shift High Court to Kurnool.
They also cite the demand of BJP state president Kanna Lakshminarayana that HC be shifted to Kurnool.
The advocates will continue to boycott courts till September 20. Advocates of Nellore, Eluru and Vijayawada also decided to boycott courts from September 17. Those from East Godavari district will are also in favour of boycotting courts on the issue.
District Bar Federation president Chilukuri Narendra Babu said advocates of Nellore, Eluru and Krishna districts will boycott courts from Tuesday.
"Advocates of East Godavari are ready to join the agitation. They will meet and take a decision on Tuesday. We are demanding the government at least respond and make its stand clear on High Court shifting to allay any concerns of advocates," he said.
