AIYF demands closure of uranium factory, sends post-cards to President

Kurnool: With the demand to close uranium factory at Thummala Palli, the All India Youth Federation (AIYF) took to post card campaign addressing to the President of India. The post cards have been posted into the post box at Collectorate premises on Tuesday.

It also opposes uranium mining in Nallamala forest in AP and Telangana. The AIYF state secretary N Lenin Babu said that uranium mining will lead to several disasters to soil, air, and water besides causing cause health hazards to people.

The fertile lands will become barren and the farmers will be forced to commit suicide if they incur losses from their produce, he said and urged the President of India to immediately stop uranium mining at Thummala Palle village.

He further said that both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh are planning uranium mining in Nalamalla forest area. If mining is done then the waters of Srisailam, Nagarjunasagar and Krishna Barrage will be polluted and the people who consume water will fall ill, Lenin Babu said. AIYF district secretary, U Karumanchi, Mahindra, N Ranga Nadu, Baiahiah, Sarath, Pratap and others participated in the post card movement.
