Amaravati: The chairpersons of Assembly committees should supervise the welfare schemes at field level for their better implementation, said Assembly Speaker Tammineni Sitaram while addressing the newly elected chairpersons of various House committees at the Assembly conference hall here on Monday.

Assembly secretary Balakrishnamacharyulu presided over the meeting.

The House committees should bear the responsibility to make the welfare schemes reach the real beneficiaries and that would promote accountability and people's confidence in the representatives, he said.

The committees while discharging their duties should take the problems the beneficiaries are facing to the notice of the government to try to resolve them, the Speaker said.

Recalling that the government had been providing equal opportunities to the women in all sectors, he said that 50 percent of reservations were implemented in village secretary posts and even nominated posts.

He suggested that the committees meet once in a month to review the implementation of welfare schemes and if necessary the members of the committees should visit the districts too.

The committees would have sufficient powers in discharging their duties, the speaker said.

The calendar for each committee would be prepared after the Assembly session, Speaker Sitaram said.

Apart from Tammineni Sitaram, chairman of environment protection committee, Gollal Babu Rao, chairman of SC welfare committee, Tellam Balaraju, chairman of tribal welfare committee, Mohmad Mustafa, chairman of Muslim minority welfare committee, V Kalavati, chairperson of child and women, senior citizens, physically handicapped welfare committee, P Samantakamani, chairperson of Subordinate Assembly committee, Janga Krishnamurthy, chairman of Backward Classes welfare committee and Angara Rama Mohan, chairperson of Library committee were present.
