Amaravati: Commissioner of Fisheries G Somasekharam said the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India People made it clear that the people would not be affected by Covid-19 though eating chicken or marine food. There is no scientific evidence to suggest that eating fish products would spread coronavirus.

Somesekhar and Additional Assistant Director G J Pramoda Malli said in a statement that the Union Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairy has been closely supervising the developments and was alert regarding the spread of Covid-19.

According to a study by the World Organisation for Animal Health, the virus spreads from humans to humans to only. The Union government informed the State Fisheries Department that no study anywhere in the world confirmed that Covid-19 would spread from fish or any fish products.

The Fisheries Department affirms that eating fish, prawn or any other fish products is safe, they said. The Fisheries Department appealed to the aqua farmers, fishermen and people not to worry over the Covid-19 as it would not affect by eating fish products.
