Polavaram spill channel concrete works resume 

Amaravati: The irrigation and the Megha Engineering staff commenced the concrete works of the spill channel of Polavaram project on Wednesday. They works were stopped in July last year due to Godavari floods. An official of the project said that they were planning to complete the spill channel concrete works in the current season.

It may be noted that the state government has expressed its determination to complete the project as per schedule and release water by next kharif season. Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy conducted a review meeting on the progress of the project works recently.

As the entire area of the spill channel was flooded, the irrigation officials made arrangements to pump out the water using 20 heavy pumpsets. Megha officials said 2.5 tmc ft water was pumped out from the area to carry out the concrete works.

So far, 1,10,033 cubic metre concrete works were completed and 10,64, 417 cubic metre earth work was over. Officials prepared plans to complete the concrete and earth works by June this year.

Irrigation officials, including AEE Padmakumar, DEE Damodaram, MEIL associate vice-president M Alagan and other officials were present.
