Amaravati: Rs 60,000 Cr worth Godavari - Banakacherla Interlinking Project is in consideration

Amaravati: State government aimed to divert Godavari water to Banakacherla regulator with an estimated cost of Rs 60,000 crore.

The Godavari Banakacherla Interlinking Project is intended to divert about 23,000 Cusecs which is equal to 2 TMC per day of Godavari Water from Polavaram dam in 105 Days and drop in to Banakacharla Head Regulator.

A total of 210 TMC of water could be diverted from Godavari to Banakacharla in the 105 days of a given year, informed the Chief Minister's Office in a statement on Monday.

The Project will serve the purpose of stabilization of NSRJ Right Main Canal ayacut of estimated 9.61 Lakh Acres. It will create irrigation potential for new ayacut of about 2 lakh acres under NSP Phase- II in Darsi and Kanigiri constituencies of Prakasham district.

It will supplement PS Velegonda Project, KC Canal, TGP, SRBC Complex from Banakacharla Regulator.

It will help in the formation of a balancing reservoir at Bollapalle village and Mandal in Guntur District with a capacity of 150 TMC by lifting water at chainage KM 114.500 of Nagarjuna Sagar Right Canal.

Drinking water requirement in Guntur and Prakasam Districts:

Daily Guage data of Godavari River has been studied by taking last fifteen years data and inferred that, the average flood days with availability of 1200 cumecs flow (3.7 TMC) at Polavaram Guage station is arrived as 105 days based on the study furnished by M/s WAPCOS.

Water Requirement at Polavaram dam siite is 20,000 Cusecs. Which including Godavari Delta – 15,000; Tadipudi/Pushkara LI – 3,000 cusecs; lifts and others– 2,000 cusecs.

Total static lift from Polavaram reservoir to Banakacharla Regulator is 230.0M.

For this project, the total power required is 2100 MW. The Length of Gravity canal is about 460.0Km. Approximate cost of the Scheme is about Rs 60,000 Crores.

Preparation of the DPR work has been entrusted to M/s WAPCOS and work will be started after detailed study and approval of DPR.
