Amaravati: Setting up of High Court is under domain of State government
Amaravati: Reacting on the protest by lawyers in Kurnool in support of their demand for setting up of High Court in Kurnool, Union Minister for Law and Justice Ravi Sankar Prasad on Wednesday explained that it is under the domain of the State government.
He gave a written reply to a question raised by the YSRCP Lok Sabha member Adala Prabhakar Reddy, representing Nellore Parliamentary constituency.
Ravi Sankar Prasad explained that Article 214 of the Constitution provides that there shall be a High Court for each State.
In pursuance of Article 214 of the Constitution and order dated 29.10.2018 issued by the Supreme Court in the matter of Union of India Vs. T Dhangopal Rao and ors [SLP (Civil) Dy. No. 29890 of 2018], a separate High Court for the State of Andhra Pradesh namely High Court of Andhra Pradesh with principal seat at Amravati had been established. This arrangement was made under AP Reorganisation Act 2014, with effect from January 1, 2019 in consultation with the State Government of AP and the then High Court of Judicature at Hyderabad for the States of Telangana and AP.
The matter of setting up and running of High Court is under the domain of State government, he explained.
