Amaravati: TDP, BJP, PDF recommend names for Select Committees

Update: 2020-02-04 02:10 IST

Amaravati: Barring the YSRCP, all political parties in the Legislative Council have recommended the names of MLCs to enable the Legislative Council Chairman to constitute two Select Committees to study the Bills meant for repealing of Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority (APCRDA) and AP Decentralisation and Inclusive Development of Regions.

It may be recalled that the Legislative Assembly passed the two Bills. But they were referred to the Select Committees by the Legislative Council Chairman.

The TDLP recommended the names of MLCs, G Deepak Reddy from Anantapur district, Batchula Arjunudu from Krishna district, Beeda Ravichandra from Nellore district, Gownivari Srinivasulu from Chittoor district and Budda Naga Jagadeswara Rao from Visakhapatnam district, to be included as members in the Select Committee on the AP Capital Region Development Authority Repeal Bill 2020.

Somu Veerraju of BJP and Illa Venkateswara Rao of Progressive Democratic Front (PDF) also named for the committee.

On the other hand, MLCs, P Ashok Babu, representing from Krishna disrict, Nara Lokesh from Guntur district, G Tippe Swamy from Anantapur district, B T Naidu form Kurnool disrict and G Sandhya Rani from Vizianagaram district have been nominated for the Select Committee on the AP Decentralisation and Inclusive Development of all Regions Bill 2020 by the TDLP. P V N Madhav from BJP and K S Lakshmana Rao from PDF have also recommended for the same committee.

Legally, the Ministers, who introduced the Bills, would be appointed as Chairman. The Decentralisation Bill was introduced by the Minister for Finance and Legislative Affairs Buggana Rajendranath Reddy. The APCRDA Repeal Bill was introduced by Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development Botcha Satyanarayana.

As per the strength of the parties in the Legislative Council, the Chairman will appoint the members in the Committees. The TDP proposed 5 MLCs for each Committee, whereas both BJP and PDF proposed each one in each committee.

The YSRCP also has the opportunity to propose its members in the Committees. But so far, they did not respond to the appeal of the Council Chairman.

It is learnt that the YSRCP is not willing to recommend the names of its MLCs as it opposed the Bills being referred to Select Committee.

After constituting the Committees, the Chairman will announce the terms and tenure of Committees.
