District Collector Gandham Chandrudu

Anantapur: District Collector has asked the officials of District Water Management Agency(DWAMA) via video conference to provide work to 6 lakh rural workers under the MGNREG scheme and come to the rescue of the rural poor.

He said that hundreds of migrant workers are returning from several states to the district and it is the responsibility of government to give work to the job card holders for 100 days.

Chandrudu said that migrations will stop only when work is provided to the poor on a daily basis. He warned officials and field level workers of action if they did not improve their performance with regard to creation of work in five to six mandals which are backward.

As of now only 2.43 lakh workers are given work under the NREG scheme. He said that the focus should be on tree plantation and water conservation. He said that mandals which are lagging in NREGS works include Hindupur, Agali, Lepakshi, Somandepalle and Nallacheruvu. He asked the project director the reason for not awarding works to the job card holders at a time when workers are confined to their homes.
