Andhra High Court allows to discharge Dr Sudhakar, asks him to cooperate with CBI inquiry

The High Court of Andhra Pradesh has issued key directions in the Vishakhapatnam Dr Sudhakar's case, which has become a sensation in the state. The High Court on Friday held a hearing on Habeas Corpus petition filed by Sudhakar's mother. The High Court asserted that Sudhakar may be discharged with the permission of the Mental Hospital Superintendent, however, it ordered Sudhakar to co-operate with the CBI investigation.

Dr Sudhakar's mother Kaveri Bai filed a habeas corpus petition in the High Court on Thursday stating Sudhakar was taken into custody illegally. She sought the court the his son be produced in court within 24 hours. On the other hand, the High Court has directed the government to file a counter claim against Dr. Sudhakar's petition over him being shifted from Visakhapatnam Mental Hospital to another hospital and postponed the hearing to next two weeks.

It was known fact that Visakhapatnam police arrested Dr Sudhakar on the 16th of this month and was taken to mental hospital after the KGH doctors said that his condition was not good. However, the AP TDP state women president, Vangalapudi Anita wrote to the High Court with videos on police brutal act on Dr Sudhakar. The court considered the letter as a "sumoto pill" and held a hearing.

The government has filed a counterclaim in the court that Sudhakar is being treated at Mental Hospital. The court issued key orders asking Visakha Sessions Judge to go to the hospital where Sudhakar was being treated and take the statement. The affidavit and Sudhakar's statement was submitted to the High Court and subsequently the case was handed over to the CBI. CBI is currently investigating the case.
