Andhra Pradesh: 9.48 lakh farmers to be paid free crop insurance amount today

CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has geared up to fulfill the promise given to the farmers during his padayatra. The Chief Minister will on Tuesday inaugurate the YSR free crop insurance scheme, which will provide relief to farmers who have lost their crop yields due to heavy rains, droughts and other natural calamities at the time of harvest. About Rs 1,252 crore will be provided as insurance compensation to 9.48 lakh farmers who lost their crops during the 2019 season. On Tuesday, the CM will press the computer button at his camp office and deposit the amount directly in the farmers' bank accounts.

In the past, the Chandrababu government never paid timely insurance to farmers who lost their crops. Hundreds of crores of rupees have been imposed on farmers in the name of premium. As a result, farmers could not get insurance cover. CM YS Jagan, who was devastated by the plight of the farmers, decided that the government should bear the full cost without imposing any financial burden on them like nowhere else in the country. The government pays the insurance money on behalf of the farmers and implements free crop insurance. This is the first time in the history of the state that insurance compensation has been credited to farmers' accounts before the turn of the year for crop damage in the 2019 season.

The government provides insurance cover by registering the details of the crops grown in the village in the e-crop through the YSR Rythu Bharosa Kendras. It also provides for assessment and compensation of damage caused to crops by natural disasters. Laying emphasis on transparency. In 2019–20, crop insurance was applied to 45.96 lakh hectares belonging to 49.81 lakh farmers. The government also paid a premium of Rs 468 crore to farmers and paid a total of Rs 971.23 crore.
