Andhra Pradesh: Centre responds positively to revised estimates of Polavaram project

The central government has given good news on the Polavaram project which is being constructed by the government of Andhra Pradesh. The centre, which has considered the appeal of state chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, has responded positively, opening up to the ongoing suspense over the estimated cost of polavaram. To this end, the Centre has officially announced that the approved cost for the Polavaram project is Rs 55,548.87 crore. The Department of Water Resources' Press Information Bureau revealed on Saturday in its annual review. It is learned that in the past, the central government has decided to pay according to the 2014 prices. The YSRCP government strongly objected to this and submitted a full report on the cost of the project in response to the doubts raised by the central government.

It is learnt that CM Jagan had recently asked Home Minister Amit Shah and Jalasakti minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat to approve the revised estimates. He appealed to the Central Government to co-operate in making the vital Polavaram project available to the people of Andhra Pradesh as soon as possible. Asked to approve the estimated cost of Rs 55,656 crore for the Polavaram project as per revised cost estimates – 2 (RCE) 2017-18 prices. He said another Rs 1,779 crore of the state government's expenditure on Polavaram was yet to be reimbursed and the bills for December 2018 were pending. State Finance Minister Bugna Rajendranath has also repeatedly submitted petitions to Union ministers during his visit to Delhi on the same issue.

After examining the state government's request, the central government said in its latest official statement that the expenditure approved by the centre for 2017-18 prices was Rs 55,548.87 crore. 8614.16 crore has been released for the project so far and another Rs. 2234 crore will be released soon. So far, Rs 17,325 crore was spent on the project. It is a known fact that Chief Minister YS Jagan is determined to complete the national project, the Polavaram project, which is vital to Andhra Pradesh, expeditiously and has been monitoring the works. With the recent approval of the revised estimates by the Central government, the construction of Polavaram is set to accelerate further.
