Andhra Pradesh: Human rights inalienable, says DGP Gautam Sawang
Amaravati: DGP Gautam D Sawang on Thursday said that the human rights are inalienable and provide guidance for the protection and promotion of the rights of every individual.
Sawang was addressing the Human Rights Day celebrations jointly organised by VIT-AP School of Law (VSL) as chief guest.
He said the December 10 is marked as day for promotion and protection of human rights and adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) by the United Nations.
"This year Human Rights Day marks an important reminder based on the current conditions, which we are experiencing with the pandemic," he said.
VSL conducted the programme at Zilla Parishad High School at Mandadam with the theme "Stand Up for Rights: Promotion and Protection of Human Rights."
He appraised the services rendered by the Andhra Pradesh Police for protection of the rights of people particularly marginalised and vulnerable sections of society. He told the students about the usage of technology in policing while protecting the rights of people. He exhorted the students to work with AP police in close collaboration to serve the community.
Prof Dr SV Kota Reddy, Vice-Chancellor of VIT-AP University, highlighted the university's contribution for the empowerment and promotion of the educational rights by supporting student's education who belong to the marginalised communities.
Registrar Dr CLV Sivakumar, Dr Ramesh Babu Kanneganti, Executive Director of Centre for Human Security Studies (CHSS), faculty and students participated in the programme.
