Andhra Pradesh: Police arrests ten red sandalwood smugglers in Seshachalam forests

The task force police on Sunday night arrested ten smugglers who were entering the Seshashalam forests for red sandalwood logs. As per the directions of the Task Force SP, the Sub Inspectors Vasu, Lingadhar and Suresh were returning from cumbing while entering the forest opposite Arvind I Hospital on SV Zoo Park Road. The task force that observed them intercepted and interrogated them and it was confirmed that they had come for the logs.

They were taken into custody and essential goods, axes, saws and other items were seized from them. Arriving at the spot, SP Anjaneyulu said that the smugglers were identified as belonging to Dharmapuri district of Tamil Nadu. He said steps were being taken to prevent smugglers from going into the forests. He said 25 people were also arrested two days ago.

The SP said that this would enable the red sandalwood trees to be protected from being cut down. DSP Venkataiah, RI Bhaskar, CI Venkata Ravi, along with Alipiri CI Devendra Kumar and Sub Inspector Vinod Kumar reached the spot and reviewed the situation.
