Andhra Pradesh: Sand week fest to begin from November 14 in all districts

Update: 2019-11-12 14:19 IST

Andhra Pradesh chief minister Jaganmohan Reddy has decided to hold sand weekends from November 14 to November 21. In the past, the average sand demand was 80 thousand tonnes but the floods have obstructed sand excavations. He spoke to collectors of 13 districts through a video conference today. CM said the situation has improved over the past week. The current supply has increased to 1.2 lakh tonnes.

CM Jagan has ordered the authorities to take steps to increase the daily supply to 2 lakh tonnes. They want to increase the number of sand stock points from 137 to 180. The constituency-wise rate card is to be decided tomorrow. "If anyone sells more than the prescribed rate, the offender is sentenced to two years' imprisonment for possession of vehicles, including fines." Chief Minister warned.

The CM has decided to take Cabinet approval tomorrow. CM ordered the authorities not to take any holidays till the sand is available. He said checkpoints should be set up everywhere in the border and the process should be completed in ten days.
