Andhra Pradesh: Special committee to meet today to discuss on power purchase

Update: 2019-11-07 10:30 IST

The central government is ready to negotiate the financial burden on power companies (disks) due to the purchase of wind and solar power. The centre considered the letter written by Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy on October 12 explaining the problems faced by the discoms. A special committee was convened on November 4 to discuss issues relating to power purchases and discoms.

The committee includes the Secretary of the Central Non-Conventional Renewable Energy Resources Development (MNRE), the Secretary of the Central Electricity Department, the Principal Secretary of the State Finance Department and the Secretary of the State Department of Energy.

The first meeting of the committee will be held in Delhi on Thursday to discuss the financial difficulties and other problems that may be caused by the discoms caused by the purchase of wind and solar power. Southern states have already taken the notice to the centre that discoms are mired in a financial crisis due to the centre's mandatory purchase of wind and solar power. They have demanded the central government to compensate the state of Rs 3.50 per unit.
