Andhra Pradesh trembles as a minor earthquake hits Ongole in Prakasam

Andhra Pradesh: An earthquake of 4.7 magnitude hit near Ongole of Prakasam district at 10:15 in the morning on Friday. The tremors were felt at Sharma College, Ambedkar Bhavan, NGO Colony, Sundaraiah Bhavan road in Ongole of Prakasam district, according to National Center for Seismology.

The earthquake jolted parts of Karnataka and Jharkhand on Friday morning. At 6.55 am, the earth quake occurred at Jamshedpur and Jharkhand. The magnitude of the quake was 4.7, officials said. The earthquake shook at Hampi, Karnataka, on the Richter scale of 4. However, there were no immediate reports of casualties or loss of property.

People were quick enough to run outbof the houses after feeling tremors. However, Earthquakes of less than five magnitude are unlikely to cause large-scale damage, unless in case of weak or compromised structures.
