Andhra Pradesh: Vizag steel plant protests take a break amid municipal elections
The protesters have temporarily postponed the steel plant movement in the wake of the Visakhapatnam GVMC elections. Residents and steel workers on the national highway called off their protests. However, they warned that they would continue their agitation until the decision to privatize the steel plant was taken back. They demanded that the centre change its mind on the privatization of the steel plant.
There are reports that the Visakhapatnam Steel Conservation Committee is formulating a special activity. Trade union leaders said they were working with experts, contract workers and all those involved in the company to work out how to intensify the movement.
The central government has decided to privatise the Visakapatnam steel plant, which evoked a protests in Visakhapatnam city. The chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for appointment with all unions. Meanwhile, the municipal elections have been underway.
