Andhra Pradesh: YS Jagan felicitates chief secretary Nilam Sawhney ahead of her retirement

Ahead of Nilam Sawhney the Chief Secretary to the Government of Andhra Pradesh retirement at the end of this month, Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Friday felicitated her along with members of the Cabinet. Nilam Sawhney took over as the Chief Secretary to the State Government on November 14, 2019. She became the first woman Chief Secretary to the government of Andhra Pradesh after the bifurcation. Sawhney has been the Union Secretary for Social Justice and Empowerment since 2018.

She is 1984 IAS batch worked as an Assistant Collector in Machilipatnam in the united Andhra Pradesh and served as Tekkali Sub Collector and Nalgonda District Joint Collector followed by Deputy Secretary, Department of Municipal Administration, PD, Department of Women and Child Welfare. Sawhney also worked in Nizamabad and Khammam districts. He served as Nalgonda District Collector and Family Welfare Commissioner.

After serving as the Secretary of State for Rural Development she worked in the joint state as VC and MD of APIDC Corporation. She later served as the Chief Secretary of the Department of Women and Child Welfare and as Secretary of Social Justice and Empowerment from 2018 until she became chief secretary.
